Volunteer Descriptions
Trail Volunteers
Trail Volunteers help maintain existing trails,
construct new trails, mark trails with blazes and signs, install new
kiosks at trailheads, and assist with other needed tasks which
ensure that trails will be in good condition for use by visitors to
LRCT protected properties. Trail Volunteers can choose a single
property or trail that they would like to help maintain (see Trail
Adopter description below) or can select from a number of projects
on different properties. The time commitment is completely up to
you-this is an area we can always use help in!
Trail Adopters
Trail Adopters volunteer to monitor one specific
trail on a property, maintain the trail to ensure that it is in good
condition for use by visitors, and report larger trail maintenance
needs or issues to the LRCT. Trail Adopters are asked to monitor and
maintain their adopted trail at least once per season, although more
frequent monitoring and maintenance is encouraged. Trail Adopters
can be individuals or a group of people (for example: civic groups,
hiking clubs, local businesses, or groups of friends). If you'd like
to organize a team of Trail Adopters, let us know!
Property Adopters
Each property that LRCT owns has a volunteer
Property Adopter who monitors the property, alerts LRCT staff about
stewardship issues, and keeps a watchful and thoughtful eye on the
protected property. Property Adopters maintain trails, identify
needed projects, and work diligently to ensure that the protected
property is carefully stewarded.
Conservation Easement Monitors
There is a Conservation Easement Monitor for each
property for which LRCT holds a conservation easement. Conservation
Easement Monitors visit the property once each year to monitor
whether the restrictions of the conservation easement are being
followed and to check the property boundaries. Conservation Easement
Monitors report any stewardship issues by filling out an annual
monitoring report form.
Office Volunteers
Office Volunteers assist with office tasks,
including labeling, stamping, and sorting mailings such as The
Legacy several times each year. Office Volunteers can help us out
once or sign up to be on our call list when needs arise.
Special Events Volunteers
Special Events Volunteers assist with special
events such as the annual Chowderfest, LRCT's Open House, and other
events that the Trust might organize during the year. Special Events
Volunteers can volunteer for one specific event or assist with
multiple events to support LRCT.
Public Outreach Volunteers
Public Outreach Volunteers help distribute
brochures, hang posters about LRCT events, and distribute LRCT
literature to towns in the region.
Volunteers with Specific Skills
If you have specific skills that you are willing to
volunteer to support the work of LRCT, please let us know. For
example, experience and skills in scientific research, historic
research, GIS mapping, graphic design, or data entry could
contribute to projects at LRCT. If you have specific skills which
might support the work of LRCT, contact us and we can discuss
whether there is a project of mutual interest that could put your
specific skills to use.
If you would like to volunteer for the Lakes Region
Conservation Trust and haven't volunteered for us before, please
fill out and return a New Volunteer Form (

Form, LRCT staff will contact you when we have a good match for
your skills and interests.
