VOLUNTEERS, YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART
If you happened to drop into the offices of the Lakes Region
Conservation Trust during the afternoon of December 9th, you would
have seen three volunteers addressing a mailing announcing our
recent land acquisition in the Ossipees. During other days volunteers
scour records in town halls throughout the Lakes Region checking
land holdings and properties in which the Trust is interested.
One Volunteer devoted weeks of this time traversing the Ossipee
Mountain Range and researching the records of its landowners in
anticipation of our latest purchase. On another day you could
have joined a group of volunteers cutting and stacking wood on
one of the Trust's properties. The wood was delivered to two local
families so they can heat their homes this winter. Volunteers
are the heart of the Lakes Region Conservation Trust. Not a day
goes by that a volunteer doesn't contribute his or her time to
support one of our key activities. We are deeply grateful to these
individuals and can only hope they realize how important they
are to us. As we continue to grow, our need for help from volunteers
increases in numerous ways. We need help in the office to do research
or with mailings. Outdoors, property trails need clearing or new
ones built. We need property monitors. Volunteers are also needed
to assist with events or to man an LRCT booth at one of the local
events. Fundraising represents another key undertaking for Trust
volunteers. And finally, we depend on the skills of volunteers
in filming our lands and events and writing press releases about
them. We have received donations of time in all of the above areas
and wish to thank each and every volunteer for their special efforts.
If you have interests and/or skills in any of the above areas,
please call Colleen Conway at 603-279-3246 and let her know how
you would like to help out as we pursue our dream of conserving
as much of our heritage as we can. See our Calendar of opportunities
on page?.
