Water Resources: Because of its enormous surface dimensions, the Squam Range is a key source of feeder streams into Squam Lake; by virtue of its undeveloped character, it is also a guarantor of the quality of these waters. More than a dozen brooks flow into Squam from the Range, making it the single largest source of tributaries in the 42,000-acre watershed. The Burleigh Land property encompasses many of these water resources, including Bennett Brook, Smith Brook, and other streams and wetlands that are tributaries to Cotton Cove, Shadbush Cove, Livermore Cove, Bennett Cove, and Squaw Cove. Water resources in the western portion of the Burleigh Land property include Chocolate Swamp, Owl Brook, and Ryan Brook and their tributaries.
