Unfragmented Wildlife Habitat: The Squam Range is the largest unprotected wildlife resource in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, and the 2,471 acres of the Burleigh Land property—consisting of a 1,572-acre southern portion and an 899-acre northern portion—constitutes a significant component of this resource. The vast area of the Range, its internal integrity and diverse forest cover, thoughtful stewardship by the land's owners and minimal human impact in many areas makes the Range a wildlife habitat of the first order. More than 800 species of animals and plants live in the Squam watershed, with the majority of these either within or dependent upon the ecosystems of the Squam Range. More than a dozen species of concern are known to exist in or near the Range.
