The Lakes Region Conservation Trust recently celebrated the gift of a conservation easement on
56 acres of land in North Sandwich from Victoria F. Blodgett. The land consists of approximately 45 forested acres, as well as
open fields and valuable wetlands, through which flows a tributary to Atwood Brook.
In a celebration hosted by long-time LRCT Board member and Sandwich resident Jocelyn F.
Gutchess, members of the LRCT Board of Trustees and Lands Committee gathered to honor Ms. Blodgett and recognize the conservation
of her property.
The property has beautiful views to the north across fields to Mt. Whiteface and the rest of the
Sandwich Range, has significant value as wildlife habitat, and is in close proximity to other conservation land in the Atwood Brook
watershed.
LRCT President Don Berry said that "the Lakes Region Conservation Trust is extremely grateful to
Vicky Blodgett for this incredible conservation easement gift" Berry noted that the conservation easement provides an excellent
example of how the voluntary efforts of a landowner working with a land trust can preserve the land consistent with her vision and
at the same time provide tremendous benefit to the community and the environment. He encouraged other Lakes Region landowners
interested in exploring conservation options for their land to contact LRCT.
